This cowl-neck crochet sweater features loads of texture and a flattering high-low hemline. The entwined cable is crocheted with an interesting combination of stitches using Red Heart Chic Sheep. 6 months ago1 AnswerA: The seaming for the entwined Chic Cable Sweater in the pattern specifies a slip stitch seam technique, but you can use a different technique if you prefer. Here is a link to instructions for a number of different seaming techniques, including a section on slip stitch seaming for crochet about half way into the document. https://www.yarnspirations.com/en-ca/blogs/how-to/methods-for-seaming-crochet?_pos=4&_psq=seamin&_ss=e&_v=1.0 We hope you find this helpful! 6 months agoHelpful?Q: Can I use worsted weight acrylic yarn in place of the wool recommended in this pattern? I’m trying to clear up my stash and I have a 1-lb skein of Big Twist value yarn from Joann. Any recommendations to make the pattern work with acrylic yarn?
8 months ago1 AnswerA: Yarn substitution is a wonderful part of creating in the fiber arts. It does however altern the yarn requirements. It's important to note that the suggested yarn, Red Heart Chic Sheep, comes in 100g balls and contains 186 yards, while Big Twist 1lb skein has 1093 yards. As a result, you will need 1 skein of the Big Twist to equal 5 skeins of the other yarn. However, it is just a guess as the yarn will not work up the same. There is no way to determine exact yarn requirements without redesigning the pattern using the new gauge and redoing all the math. You can continue the pattern, but most likely, you will need significantly more than double the number of skeins. Additionally, a gauge swatch is vital as odds are the fabric created with acrylic will be stiffer than that made with wool. So, yes, you can substitute, but you will have to a lot of work to ensure the sweater fits and ensure the fabric is something you want to wear.
8 months agoHelpful?Q: Can I use any worsted weight yarn
a year ago1 AnswerA: Technically, yes, but not all yarns are created equally. This yarn was a wool yarn that was light and lofty. It had great stitch definition without being too heavy. Using a dense yarn might make the sweater really heavy and also might stretch the garment. As the Chic Sheep yarn is not available at this time, the closest we have to match would be the Patons Classic Wool Worsted. If wanting to use an acrylic yarn, I might lean toward Red Heart Soft or Caron Simply soft.
a year agoHelpful?Q: entwined chic cable crochet sweater and I am concerned with the swatch gauges. I can get the 14 extended single crochet but with a 4.5mm hook, I can not get the 12 rows with 4mm at 4", it is 5", and I really don't want to go on a Med 4 yarn help?
a year ago2 AnswersA: Are you able to adjust the height of your ESC stitches so that you can meet the 12 rows in 4 inches with your 4.5mm hook? That particular bit has some wiggle room for you to make adjustments to meet gauge as long as you can be consistent. Please let us know how this works out and don’t hesitate to contact us again if you need further assistance with your Red Heart Entwined Chic Cable Sweater.
