    Great gift!

This is my go-to pattern whenever I need to stitch a quick baby gift. I’ve made them with different weight yarn and in different dimensions. It’s always a hit with the new mommy.

    Yes, I recommend this product.

Q: can i use a different size hook for the project? will that have an effect on the project completely? Im new to crochet so i only have a few sizes of hooks, I was thinking of using 5mm specifically. The only other sizes I have are 8mm & 10mm.

    1 Answer

A: You can absolutely use a hook of a different size for making this (or any) project. Different hooks will create different gauges and can affect the look and feel of the fabric. The stated gauge for this pattern is: In pattern, 11 sts and 8 rows = 4"/10cm, which one would typically check before beginning the project. If you get this gauge, you should have enough yarn and finish with an item approximately 34"/86.5 cm wide x 35"/89 cm long. In case you've never worked with gauge before, we are including a link to video about measuring gauge. We hope this gives you the information you need to be successful with your One Skein Baby Blanket,

Q: In row 2 it says dc in last stitch but it doesn’t say to dc in the skipped stitch. Is that correct ? Also how many stitches should I have at the end of row 2?

    1 Answer

A: When you are working your One Skein Baby Blanket, when you complete row 2 you should have 93 stitches. Since there are an odd number of stitches, when you get to the end of the row, you will have just completed a pair of stitches, a slip and back in the slipped stitch, so you should have one left to complete the dc.

Q: Row 2: " *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st;" If you skip a stitch at the beginning of the row, and dc in the next stitch, how can you dc in skipped st?

    1 Answer

A: When making the One skein Crochet Baby Blanket, you will skip a stitch, and then go backwards, across the already crocheted stitch to work the skipped stitch, forming an X in the pattern.   I hope this gives you the clarity you need to work this fun baby blanket. Should you need more assistance, we would be more than happy to assist you with your pattern inquiry.  Please send your details to inquire@yarnspirations.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.

Q: Row 2: " *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in skipped st;" If you skip a stitch at the beginning of the row, and dc in the next stitch, how can you dc in skipped st? Does this mean skip the 3rd (next) stitch then dc in the 4th st.?

A: Thanks for the clarification. I did read the article you referenced. In all my years crocheting, I have never made anything using a cable stitch, and I am unfamiliar with the abbreviation xdc. I learned to make a cross-stitch (or X st) differently.
