I am very excited about this project, the pattern is so cute! But I need help with row 1. I end up with 2 extra stitches.

Let's take a closer look at row 1 of the One Ball Shawl. You should have cast on 23 stitches. The directions for row 1 begin at the bottom of the first column after the instructions to cast on and finishing 6 rows of garter stitch. (be careful not to confuse the beginning of the scarf with the beginning of the pattern stitch). Row 1: K4, yo, place marker, >>> 4 stitches consumed, 5 created work Row 1 of Lace stitch over next 15 sts, >> at this point in the shawl, you will only do the pattern once without repeating it K1, yo, k5, yo, sk2p, yo, k5, yo; repeat from * to last st, k1. >> since your 2 yo balance the 2 stitches decreased in the sk2p 15 stitches are both consumed and created place marker, yo, k4 – >>> 4 stitches consumed, 5 created You should have started with 23 stitches and end up with 25. We hope this helps you better understand how this works.

Q: Row 1 - There are 6 yo in row 1 with 2 stitches decreased. So should this not be 27 stitches instead of 25?

    1 Answer

A: Yes, you are correct. You will have 27 stitches after Row 1 in the pattern. Sometimes the lace section will have 17 sts and sometimes there will be 15 sts. We apologize for this typo. We have sent this to our design team for further review.

Q: R4 has 17 stitches instead of 15. Should it be the same as row 6?

    1 Answer

A: The stitch counts as you work through the lace pattern of the One Ball Shawl change as you work the rows. After working row 1, you will have 17 stitches (two stitches increased), that are worked in rows 2-4. Then, in row 5, there are two more decreases than increases, and your stitch count returns to 15 stitches. for the remaining rows. The rows do work as written.
