a year agoI’ve made several of these. With a little work you get a cute outfit. This is rated easy, but, I don’t think the less skilled workers in my crochet group would find this pattern easy. My stitches run loose, but I had to go up a hook size to get a good fit. Super Saver made a dress that was too stiff and bulky. I have made the dress with Soft yarns and with Shimmer. I have also used Comfort Sport [weight #3] and baby yarns. The hat works well in the Super Saver and so does the bag. I did the cape in Super Saver, and it is OK, but stiff. It came out too wide at the neck. Instead of adding ties at either end, I did a row of: sc in 2 stitches, then [ch2, skip one stitch, sc in 2 stitches], repeat across. Then, with a smaller hook, I made a long tie and threaded it through the holes. That way you can gather the top when you tie it. A thinner yarn makes a better tie. You can save buttons by putting in a tie before you do the skirt [just do some chains, single crochet across the remaining loops and do more chains.] Little kids prefer the one button and the tie. It’s easier for them and the doll won’t complain if there are gaps on their backs. I used google eyes that have a plastic connecter and just crocheted across the plastic piece to attach. This pattern is versatile -- if you use pastel colors or Red Heart Shimmer this pattern can be a princess dress. Make the hat without the ruffle and add a piece of cloth to the top for a medieval look, or substitute a crown. [There’s a crown pattern with the mermaid costume.] Do it in white or pompadour white to make a bride. Do it in red & white or green & White for Christmas dresses.Yes, I recommend this product.
