Q: I have attempted this pattern several times & am running into a stitch count problem but not on every row. I'm having to add a stitch on one side or the other after a couple of rows. I have counted my stitches according to the pattern. Help please!

A: The Bernat Lacy Crochet Shawl is a symmetrical triangle design and should have the same stitch count on each side of the center ch-2 space. We recommend laying your shawl flat and Row 1 at the left just like the diagram shows. Then, you can inspect your shawl against the following suggestions: 1) Is it possible that you may have accidentally used a beginning of row ch-2 on a wrong side row as a stitch at some point? This would cause one stitch too many on the half to the right of the center stitch. 2) Is it possible that you may have accidentally not used a beginning of row ch-5 as a dtr at some point? This would cause one stitch short on the half to the left of the center stitch. 3) Did you mark the 20th chain and used it for the center stitch like was instructed in the Foundation Row? These are some key points to check and help get you back on track. I hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue and you’re able to finish your shawl. Should you need more help, we would be more than happy to assist you with your pattern inquiry.  Please send your details to inquire@yarnspirations.com and we will get back to you as quickly as possible.
